#28 Lopers Battle the Winds, Beat the 'Chos

Kearney, Neb. – The 28th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team won the doubles point and had two straight set singles victories to beat 42nd-ranked Central Oklahoma, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in Edmond.

The dual was moved up three hours to a 10 a.m. start due to high winds in the area. The Lopers are now 12-3 (3-0) while the Bronchos fall to 5-6 (1-2).

To beat UCO by a 4-3 score for a second straight year, UNK won at one and two doubles by identical 6-2 scores. The Lopers then clinched the dual with wins at three, five and six singles.

Junior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) made it 2-1 on the scoreboard after a 6-3, 6-2 decision at three. She now has 10 singles wins in duals as does junior Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.). She clinched things thanks to a 6-3, 7-6 (-1) effort at six with freshman Tanyaradzwa "Tanya" Midzi (Zimbabwe) winning in three sets at five; 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Finally, Bernthal and Midzi improved to 5-4 at number one doubles with their last five matches being three wins and two unfinished matches (leading in both).

UNK heads to Northeastern State (6-4, 1-1) on Sunday morning.
