UNK Beats the Greyhounds & Vikings to Reach Semifinals

Kearney, Neb. – The fifth-ranked and third-seeded Nebraska Kearney wrestling team easily advanced to the 2025 NWCA Multi-Division National Duals semifinals with wins over 21st-ranked Indianapolis, 30-11 and seventh-ranked Augustana, 23-13, Friday in Cedar Falls, Ia.

The Lopers (8-3) will face MIAA rival and fourth-ranked Central Oklahoma in a Saturday morning semifinal dual. The second-seeded Bronchos dispatched of Mary (N.D.), 26-15, and Wisconsin-Parkside, 20-15, to advance. The 'Chos (6-0) have taken five of the last six meetings with the Lopers; the two are already scheduled for a MIAA dual Feb. 7 in Edmond.

In the morning match against the Greyhounds (0-3), UNK recorded two tech falls, two majors and a fall. Top-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) had a take down and seven near-fall points to win 15-0 at 125-pounds with 14th-ranked Jacobi Deal (Durham, N.C.) having five takedowns as part of a 20-3 victory at 184-pounds. In between these two, redshirt junior Trenton Munoz (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was already up 5-0 at 165-pounds before recording a fall at 2:59 with ninth-ranked Kaden Hart (St. Peters, Mo.) taking his 174-pound battle by a 16-3 score thanks to seven second period points.

UNK beat Augie (3-4) by a 24-11 score back in December and did it again with Ourada once again beating Jaxon Rohman. The last time the two met in Lincoln, Rohman was number one nationally, but Ourada recorded a 6-0 win. Another shut out was in the works again as Ourada built up riding time and had two takedowns to come out on top, 8-0.

Next, senior Jacari Deal (Durham, N.C.) followed in his brother's footsteps and upset third-ranked Cade Mueller. Deal used a third-period escape to force overtime and then had a takedown at the 56 second mark to win 4-1. Jacobi bested Mueller by the same score but in regulation. Finally, top-ranked Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) remained unbeaten after a fall at 1:58 with seventh-ranked Joseph Airola (Ward, Colo.) bouncing back from a UI loss to win 10-4 at 141-pounds.

UNK and UCO meet at 11 a.m. as do top-ranked St. Cloud State and sixth-ranked McKendree (Ill.). The semifinal winners square off at 3 p.m. with the losses fighting for third-place at 1 p.m.
