Beavers Nip the Lopers Again; Bulldogs & Broncos Up Saturday

Kearney, Neb. – The Pratt Beavers won the final two singles matches in three sets to slip past Nebraska Kearney, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

This was the first dual of the spring semester for the Lopers (1-3). They face NAIA members McPherson College (8 a.m.) and Hastings (8 p.m.) on Saturday.

This is the second straight year PCC has bested UNK by a 4-3 score. The Beavers, from Pratt, Kan., finished up the 2023-24 year ranked seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

UNK breezed through doubles by outscoring Pratt by an 18-6 margin. In singles, sophomore Jip Mens (Netherlands) won in straight sets at two with junior Alex Jaulin (Australia) needing a third set to win at five; 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The Beavers won in straight sets at one and six and then closed out the dual with marathon wins at three (7-6; 11-9, 3-6, 6-3) and four (1-6, 7-6; 7-5, 6-4).
