#2 Lopers Stung by the Hornets; #9 Ichabods Up Saturday Afternoon

Kearney, Neb. – The Emporia State Hornets hit .361 and dug up 51 balls to sweep No. 2 Nebraska Kearney (-22, -11, -18) Friday night in Kansas.

A vastly improved E-State program moves to 14-3 (5-1) while the Lopers (18-1, 5-1) fall for the first time this fall.

To end a 35-match losing streak to UNK, dating back to 1988, Emporia got 12 kills from both graduate outside Nyia Anderson and freshman outside Lavra Krizanic with freshman right side/setter Delainee Dexter and senior outside Camilla Ossola combining for 15 more kills in just 27 attempts with no errors.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair featuring eight ties and six lead changes. E-State took a 22-20 lead after two kills and an unforced Loper attack error. While UNK got within one point twice, kills by Krizanic and Ossola closed things out.

The Hornets buzzed from there, hitting .500 (15-1-28) in set two and .319 (17-2-47) in the third. The lead changed only four times over the final two sets as UNK didn't hit over .133 in either the second or third. The .361 effort is the highest by a Loper foe in 18 years.

Dexter added 17 assists to her kill tally with Krizanic and senior DS Boglarka Rady at 11 digs apiece. Finally, Anderson had a team-best 16 in that category with sophomore middle Mia Frisbie at a team-best six blocks.

Kansas senior middle Abby Rose hit .308 (6-2-13) to pace the Loper attack while also having three digs and a block assist. Next, North Platte grad outside Carly Purdy had a team-best eight kills with Imperial junior Bryn McNair and Indiana junior libero Ellie Spang at nine digs apiece. Finally, Dannebrog redshirt sophomore middle Sydney Davis had four kills in six swings (.667).

UNK is at No. 9 Washburn tomorrow afternoon. The Ichabods (16-1, 5-1) swept Fort Hays State tonight.
