Lopers Battle One of Division I's Best Teams

Kearney, Neb. – Top-ranked Jackson Kinsella won in overtime, but the sixth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones downed Nebraska Kearney, 37-3, Friday night in Ames.

This was ISU's first dual of the 2025-26 season while UNK falls to 1-1

At 197 pounds, Kinsella (Creston, Ia.) made his return home a memorable one as he used an escape and take down in the first tie-breaking period to down junior CJ Carter. UNK almost had another win to close out the night, but second-ranked Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) fell by a 3-2 decision to sophomore McCrae Hagarty. All the scoring was done in the second period as Howard escaped twice and Hagarty recorded a take down. Finally, fifth-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) was up 5-4 in the third period after a take down of Carter Pearson. However, the freshman tallied a reversal and added riding time to win by a 7-6 count.

Some Lopers will compete Saturday at the Grand View Open in Des Moines with the annual Younes Hospitality Open next Saturday at the SportsPlex.
