Top-Ranked Lopers Show Off Depth at the SportsPlex

Kearney, Neb. – The top-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team had 19 placers (top six) at its annual Younes Hospitality Open Saturday at the SportsPlex in Kearney.

The non-team scoring event, in its 14th year, is one of the largest collegiate tournaments in the country and featured 23 mats in its first year in a new venue.

A tournament with competition ranging from college clubs to Division I, UNK had had nine placers in the "Elite" bracket, nine in the "Intermediate" and one in the "Amateur." Placing first was Minnesota redshirt sophomore Cael Robb (Elite/157 lbs.), Missouri senior Kaden Hart (Elite/184 lbs.), Iowa graduate Jackson Kinsella (Elite/197 lbs.), Kansas junior Marcus Terry (Intermediate/141 lbs.), Lincoln redshirt freshman Sam Andres (Intermediate/184 lbs.), and David City redshirt junior Tre Daro (Intermediate/197 lbs.). Those coming in second were Iowa graduate Crew Howard (Elite/285 lbs.), Bennington redshirt freshman Cadyn Coyle (Intermediate/125 lbs.), and Bennington redshirt sophomore Connor Ritonya (Intermediate/141 lbs.).

Robb had four close decisions, as well as an 18-2 tech fall, Hart outscored his first four opponents by a combined tally of 20-1 and took his finals match by medical forfeit with Kinsella using a third period takedown to get past Ben Ronnessen of Adams State, 4-2. Next, Terry used a late reversal to get past Ritoyna, 10-9, with Andres winning three matches by two points each and Daro taking his finals bout, 1-0. Finally, Howard rolled into the Elite 285-lbs. finals before running into an a future ISU Cyclone while Coyle had two tech falls among his three wins. 

The Lopers are off until a Dec. 5 dual vs. Chadron State.
