Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's swimming and diving team placed fourth at its own two-day invitational this weekend at Kearney High School.

Western Colorado, Colorado State-Pueblo, Nebraska Wesleyan and Iowa Western were in attendance as well as five men's teams. There were three sessions, one on Friday night and two on Saturday. A "Distance Meet" was held on Friday and a "Sprint Meet" on Saturday.

UNK reached 252 points on Friday and then 281 points on Saturday. Western Colorado (584 & 579 points) placed first both days.

Kansas freshman Joslynn Grace was first in the 400-individual medley (4:46.47) and fifth in the 200-breaststroke (2:32.71) on Friday and swam on the third-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:44.45) and the fifth-place 400-medley relay squad (4:09.05). The 400 I.M. time ranks second best in school history with the 200 breast effort good for fourth.

UNK then racked up some team points on the 1-meter board as McCook freshman Maryann Kassner (367.0 points) and Springfield sophomore Elizabeth Welsh (330.20) finished second and third, respectively. Finally on Friday, Colorado freshman Delaney Madnikoff was fourth in the 200-breaststroke (2:31.29) with McCook senior Kailynn Rodewald leading a herd of Lopers in the 1,000-free. UNK was seventh through 11th here with Rodewald turning in a 12:18.18. Madnikoff now ranks third in Loper lore.

On a long and busy Saturday, Norfolk senior Maggie Waddington was runner up in the 50 free (25.08), fifth in the 100 free (55.91) and 100-backstroke (1:04.56) and swam anchor on both the 200-medley (fourth) and 200-free (fifth) relay teams.

Mankey then was fourth (1:09.14) and Grace seventh (1:12.39) in the 100-breaststroke with Kansas City senior Reese True sixth in the 100-butterfly (1:02.71) and Mankey just two places behind (1:02.86). Finally, Grace was fourth in the 200-I.M. (2:17.37) and seventh in the 100-I.M. (1:04.25). Both efforts place her in the all-time Top 10.

UNK heads to Topeka, Kan., for the KC Crown Classic Nov. 20-22.
