Kearney, Neb. – Former Nebraska Kearney cornerback Ife Current has earned honorable mention All-American honors from the Don Hansen Football Committee.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Ife Current

Current (Kennedale, Texas), who recently committed to FCS power South Dakota State after receiving multiple FBS and FCS offers, is the Lopers first AA corner since Arthur Hobbs in 2011. This is the second straight year UNK has had a Don Hansen AA as d-end Quillan Felton also was an honorable mention choice.

Previously at Missouri Southern and Texas-Permian Basin, Current was one of the MIAA's top corners in 2025. He tied for the lead in interceptions (four) with two others while bringing one back 38 yards for a touchdown vs. playoff qualifier Chadron State. He finished the year with 55 tackles (45 solo) and four pass breakups and was part of a defense that allowed just 22.6 points and 325.5 yards per game while forcing 25 turnovers.

UNK went 6-5 this past season, beating in-state rivals Wayne State and Chadron and going 4-1 at home. The spring season begins in March 2026.
