Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney, led by the Loper Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), recently raised donations for the Loper Pantry.

The pantry serves UNK students and employees suffering from food insecurity in pursuit of ensuring that no student's efforts to obtain a higher education are hindered by hunger. The upcoming winter break is a critical time for the pantry which is located on the North side of the Nebraskan Student Union on campus.

On Saturday Dec. 13, nineteen Loper student athletes representing eight different programs; one assistant coach and two administrators spent three hours (9am-12 p.m.) at four Kearney grocery stores. They asked patrons to buy extra items, and the community generously donated 1,116 pieces (1,000 pounds) that will overflow the Loper Pantry. Participating stores were Hy-Vee Grocery Store, Family Fresh Market, Grand Central Apple Market and Boogaarts Food Store.

"I was so excited to see how generous the Kearney Community was. It was freezing that day, but the student athletes that signed up showed up and did an excellent job collecting items for our pantry. What a great way to end the semester, giving back and making sure the pantry is full! I am so proud of our student athletes!," said Associate Athletic Director - Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator Rachael Page.

• Monday - Friday: 6:30am to 11:00pm
• Saturday: 7:30am to 11:00pm
• Sunday: 8:30am to 11:00pm

How to Donate

Donation hours of the Loper Pantry are Monday through Friday, during regular academic term, 9am to 5pm. Please bring donations to the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, room 142D, in the Nebraskan Student Union.
