Long Week Wraps Up with Two More Records

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney Aqualopers set two more school-records on the final day of the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships (RMAC) Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo.

The five-day meet began Tuesday night with the 800-free relay and concluded Saturday night. UNK scored 423 points to finish seventh out of nine teams. Colorado State-Pueblo (470) was just ahead with Colorado Mesa winning the league title once again (1,939).

Junior Gabby Grace (Topeka) broke junior Maggie Waddington's school-record in the 200-backstroke by having an altitude converted 2:10.42 in the finals. That bests the 2:10.98 Waddington (Norfolk) posted last month. Grace previously was sixth in the record book and had a PR in the prelims (converted 2:13.60).

In the 1,650-free, freshman Josey Fink (Ralston H.S.) came in 20th with the seventh-best time in UNK history (converted 19:26.16) with Waddington finishing fifth in the 100-backstroke finals. She had career-best in both prelims (converted 52.86) and finals (52.75) and came close to the school-record of 52.36 (Claire Nash; Feb. 2022). In the final individual event, freshman Jaesa Whitesell (Cheyenne), sophomore Jayden Shoemaker (Potter-Dix H.S.) and freshman Gabriella Roche (Omaha Marian) scored team points in the 200-breaststroke.

Finally, Waddington and Grace paired with senior Makayla Seal (Midwest City, Okla.) and sophomore Anai Aguirre (Kearney H.S.) to place fifth in the 400-free relay. Their 3:37.38 bests the school-mark of 3:37.87 set three years ago at this same meet.

This was the final event of the 2024-25 season for the Aqualopers.
