UNK Finishes 4-2 on the Islands; OKC Trip Up Next

Kearney, Neb. – Junior Madeline Janssen threw the final 4.2 innings and senior Eden McNally scored on a passed ball to help Nebraska Kearney beat Hillsdale (Mich.) College, 7-6 in 10 innings, Friday in Honolulu.

The Lopers fell to Hawai'I Hilo, 4-2, in their final game of the Ulili Invitational. UNK went 4-2 during the week with two games on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Janssen (Earlham, Ia.) didn't allow an earned run over the final half of the game after the Chargers (4-4) scored four in its half of the fifth to tie things up. With a runner at second to start each extra inning, UNK finally blanked Hillsdale in the bottom of the 10th inning thanks to two ground outs and a fly out. In the top of the inning, McNally (Castle Rock, Colo.) moved to third via on a sac bunt and scored on an errant pitch.

Eight different Lopers had a hit with McNally scoring three times and Janssen picking up the save. Finally, Central City freshman Jerzie Schindler is now 2-0 after throwing the first half of the game.

The UHH Vulcans (5-4) used two triples, single and Loper error in the bottom of the fifth to score three times and erase a 4-2 deficit. UNK got two runners on in the sixth but a fielder's choice ended the threat. They then went down in order in the seventh

Junior Madison Rabe (2-0) threw a complete game seven-hitter that featured four K's, four walks and 15 fly outs. Offensively, Hilo was paced by catcher Chenoa Cainglit and designated player Miguela Leopoldo who both knocked in a pair of runs.

For UNK, junior left fielder Alivia De La Cruz (Mesa, Ariz.) went 2 for 2 with two runs from the nine hole with sophomore third baseman Alyssa Fortik (Raymond) 2 for 2 with three RBI's.

The Lopers remain busy as they head to the OKC Metro area to take part in the annual Raising Cane's Invitational.
