UNK Falls at #24 Pittsburg State

Kearney, Neb. – The 24th-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas banged out 23 hits to beat Nebraska Kearney, 10-3 and 10-1 (5 innings), Thursday afternoon in Kansas.

These games were moved up a day due expected inclement weather this weekend. UNK (22-23, 8-12 MIAA) heads to Missouri Southern on Friday.

In the early game, Pitt (35-11, 16-4) scored seven runs over the first two innings with Grand Island sophomore Ava Laurent (15-4) fanning 10 in six innings of work. First baseman Amaya Snyder and catcher Ava Sarwinski were a combined 4 for 7 with three runs and five RBI's batting from the fifth and six spots in the order. Finally, nine-hole hitter Kendall Forbes was 2 for 4 with two RBI's.

UNK got a solo homer from Canadian senior right fielder Madisyn Simms with Colorado redshirt freshman DP Kendall Kersey and California sophomore catcher Gianna Galli having RBI's as well. This was Simms' first career dinger as a Loper and 14th bomb in college.

Pitt erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth in game two to close out things. Designated player Sophia Driver hit a three-run homer to left with leadoff hitter and shortstop Heather Arnett (2 for 3, four RBI's) following with a three-run triple to right center. UNK manufactured a run in the top of the first with Colorado senior second baseman Rylyn Nelson one of three to have one hit in the game.

MSSU (32-16, 12-8) swept Fort Hays State today, 2-1 and 10-0. The Lopers and Tigers remain tied for eighth place in the league standings.
