Leadoff Hitter & Shortstop Repeats as All-MIAA Selection

Kearney, Neb. – Junior shortstop Mary Chvatal again represents Nebraska Kearney on the All-MIAA softball team.

The league's 13 head coaches nominate and vote on the makeup of the team; they cannot select their own players. Chvatal (Wahoo) repeats as an honorable mention choice and is the 10th Loper in the MIAA era (since 2012) to be a multiple All-MIAA pick.

One of three Lopers to start all 49 regular season games, the leadoff batter enters Wednesday's league tournament at .375 with three triples, 12 doubles, 10 RBI's and 41 runs scored. She leads UNK in seven offensive categories including average, walks drawn (35), stolen bases (15) and on-base percentage (.497). Chvatal also has a team-best 102 assists in the field with her career total (294) eighth in school history. Finally, the Journalism major needs just five more walks to set a new career mark (83).

UNK (23-26, 9-15 MIAA) finished in a three-way tie for ninth place in the league standings and is the 10th-seed in this weekend's single elimination tournament in Hays, Kan. The Lopers and Chvatal face 7th-seed Missouri Western (31-20) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
