Five Selected to All-MIAA Women's Tennis Team; Senior Picks Up Sportsmanship Award

Kearney, Neb. – The 22nd-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team has placed five on the 2025 All-MIAA squad.

New this year, the All-MIAA team is based on individual victories against conference opponents only. For singles, players received +6 points for each win at No. 1, +5 points for each win at No. 2, etc. Same scoring in doubles and awarded +3 points for each win at No. 1, +2 for each win at No. 2 and +1 for each win at No. 3. The singles player with the most points is awarded "Player of the Year" title and the freshman nominee with the most points was awarded the "Freshman of the Year" honor. Senior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) picks up the "Sportsmanship Award" and is first-team singles and first-team doubles. She joins Emma Neil (2015-18) as the only Loper women to be a 4-time singles pick and is the fifth 3-time doubles selection. Finally, Ranaivo joins Melisa Becerra (2023), Alexis Bernthal (2022), Claire Neil (2019 & 2021), Emma Neil (2018) and Joey Richards (2018) as Lopers to earn the Sportsmanship Award.

Ranaivo, ranked 35th in D2, enters the MIAA Tournament this weekend with a 15-5 mark (6-2 vs. MIAA) at No. 2 singles and teams with sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe) to be 16-5 (7-2 vs. MIAA) at one doubles. The pair are currently ranked 17th nationally. Midi was also tabbed 2nd-team singles as she is undefeated in league play (8-0) and 17-3 overall playing at No. 3 and 4.

Senior Masha Hatouka (Belarus) joins Ranaivo and Midzi as Lopers to be tabbed in both singles and doubles. She is honorable mention in both, currently 14-6 (7-2 vs. MIAA) at five singles and 17-4 at two doubles with senior Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.). Both are now two-time All-MIAA honorees in doubles. Finally, sophomore Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) is first-team singles. She is ranked 13th nationally and is 15-7 (5-4 vs. MIAA) playing in the top spot. Like Midzi, Gamboa is a first-time all-league selection.

UNK (18-4) is the top seed in the MIAA Tournament and plays the winner of Central Oklahoma and Emporia State Saturday at 10 a.m. in Springfield, Mo.
