Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UNK Falls to the Dragons in the Twin Cities

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's soccer team had advantages in both shots and corner kicks but fell to Minnesota State-Moorhead, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in the Twin Cities.

The game was held at Concordia-St. Paul. Both teams opened their seasons on Friday, the Lopers falling to CU, 1-0, and the Dragons tying Black Hills (S.D.) State, 0-0, in Moorhead.

UNK peppered Dragon keeper Rylee Truslow with 17 shots (eight on goal) and four corners, but she recorded her second shut out. The senior made six saves with six different Lopers getting off at least one shot.

The game changed at the 20:10 mark when junior keeper Susie Bovaird (Lincoln East) was given red card after colliding with redshirt senior Brookly Broderick. The Dragons had sent a long ball towards the goal after a Loper foul and Bovaird came out and collided with Broderick just outside the box.

About 20 minutes later, the Dragons converted a turnover as New Zealand sophomore Sophie Thompson fired from 24 yards out and into the left corner of the net. In the second half, the Dragons countered a Loper attack with one of their own and freshman Anca Cecilia Walker got free from the defense down the center of the field. She converted a 1 vs. 1 goal with keeper Madelyn Schaffert (Gretna East).

Senior forward Hanna Schimmer (Sioux City, Ia.) had a game-high 10 shots (three on goal) with sophomores Reegen McKee (Fruita, Colo.) and Daniella Iaquinta (Aurora, Colo.) both at two and one goal. Finally, Schaffert made three saves in her collegiate debut with defenders Riley Jensen (Bellevue East) and Keila Gillispie (Newton, Kan.) once again going all 90 minutes.

UNK faces Sioux Falls and BHSU next weekend at Foster Field.
