Lopers Back in the Top Spot Heading into Regionals

Keanrey, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney wrestling team is ranked number one again in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25.

The final regular season rankings came out today (Feb. 19) and found UNK with 90 points compared to 77 for MIAA rival Central Oklahoma. A team's point total is determined by TPI (tournament power index) with a number one ranked individual worth 20 points, a second ranked individual worth 16 points etc.

The Lopers and Bronchos both have eight wrestlers in the Top 15, but UNK has seven garnering at least nine points while UCO has five such individuals. Grand Valley State of Michigan (69) and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (67.50) are ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Defending National Champion UNK was No. 1 in the preseason (Oct. 23) and in the first regular season rankings (Nov. 20) with the 'Chos in the top spot for rankings two (Dec. 18) and three (Jan. 22).

The Lopers head to Golden, Colo., next Saturday (Feb. 28) for the Super Region VI Championships.
