UNK Drops Two to #11 Pitt in Home Opener; #3 MoSo Tomorrow

Kearney, Neb. – The 11th-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas hit four home runs and had three big innings to take a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 10-4 and 13-2 (5 innings), Friday at Dryden Park.

This was the MIAA openers for both and the home opener for the road weary Lopers (11-20). On Saturday, third-ranked Missouri Southern State (26-4, 1-1) visits the newly-renovated Dryden. Zaria Brigham

Pitt (28-1) came in having outscored its competition by a 243-70 margin and showed why in its first at-bat. Senior catcher Lexi Davis hit a three-run homer and then senior left/right fielder Kyleigh Lamont followed with a two-run shot. Pitt, thanks to multiple illegal pitches, tacked on three more in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Without those IP's, UNK would've gotten out of the inning unscathed.

Sophomore Lexi Franklin (6-0) allowed two earned on two hits and two walks with senior shortstop Heather Arnett (3 for 4, one run & one RBI) pacing a nine-hit attack. For UNK, junior third baseman Daniella Morillas (Newcastle, Calif.) had two RBI's with junior first baseman Gianna Galli (Stockton, Calif.) and sophomore right fielder Bailey Peterson (Oakdale, Calif.) at two hits apiece. Finally, junior Chloe Odle (Beloit, Kan.) threw 3.0 innings of shut out relief.

Pitt was up 4-0 after three complete in game two before erupting for nine runs in the fourth. Junior left fielder Haili Igou (2 for 2, three runs & three RBI's) started the rally with a two-run shot to right and then eight more hits followed. Junior lefty Emma Crabb (5-0) fanned five and walked over the first three innings with the Lopers led by Central City sophomore lefty Jerzie Schindler. She blanked the Gorillas over the final 1.2 innings and recorded a strikeout.

MSSU split a double header this afternoon with Fort Hays State, falling 4-1 and winning 9-4.
