UNK Shares Team Trophy with Tourney Host Washburn

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team shot a 54-hole total of 908 to tie for first place at the annual Firekeeper Open Tuesday in Mayetta, Kan.

The two-day tournament was hosted by Washburn at the par 72 Firekeeper G.C. (5,820 yards). The 13 teams played 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday; the average overall score was 81.2 (325 for a team).

UNK had rounds of 313, 299 and 296 to tie the host Ichabods (309-298-301) for first. Wayne State (915) was third with 43rd-ranked Central Oklahoma (918) fourth.

Swedish freshman Pella Broms came in third with a 5-over 221 (74-73-74) with Kansas junior Liz Lyons tying for ninth (227/81-75-71). Lanie Veenendall of Augustana was the medalist thanks to a 2-over 218. Broms had a tourney-best 14 birdies including three in a row (holes 10-12) on Tuesday. Next, Lyons carded five birdies in round three and three in round two. Finally, Broms led the tourney in par 3 hole scoring (3.00 avg.) with Lyons tied for the third most birdies (nine).

Also for UNK, Minnesota sophomore Calie Dockter (76-77-78) and Kansas junior Claire Berquist (82-75-74) both tied for 15th (231 overall) with Kansas senior Beth Grant (79-77-78) a stroke and three places behind playing as an individual. Finally, Texas junior Sofia Wildeman (27th; 237/83-78-76) was the other Loper individual with Arizona senior Emmie Rhude rounding out the top five (33rd; 239/86-76-77).

UNK's last regular season event is the Wildcat Classic (April 13-14) at the Wayne C.C.
