Big Day Two Helps UNK Win Wayne Tournament

Keanrey, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team had a terrific sound round (294) to win the annual Wildcat Classic Tuesday in Wayne.

The 13-team event was held at the par 72 Wayne C.C. (5,863 yards). The field included "B" squads from both UNK and Sioux Falls with the average round being just under an 82.00. 

The Lopers had a rough Monday (308) but were on fire in round two to vault up four places and win by six strokes (602 total). Concordia-St. Paul was runner up with Minnesota State and the host 'Cats tied for third (609).

UNK's day two featured 12 birdies with four players tallying a four on the par 5 9th hole (483 yards). Kansas junior Claire Berquist tied for first thanks to a 3-over 147 (75-72). She then beat Addi Wood of Concordia in a three-hole playoff for medalist honors thanks to two pars. Berquist's tourney also featured an Eagle on the par 4 14th hole (285 yards) on Monday and seven consecutive pars on Tuesday.

Next, Minnesota sophomore Calie Dockter tied for third (76-72) thanks to six birdies overall and five straight pars on Tuesday. The "B" squad was paced by Arizona senior Emmie Rhude who tied for fifth overall (151; 75-76) as she had two birdies on the par 5 2nd hole (482 yards). The "B" group carded a 641 (319-322) to best five varsity squads and the second team from USF.

Finally, both Kansas senior Beth Grant (155; 79-76) and Kansas junior Liz Lyons (155; 78-77) tied for 21st with Swedish freshman Pella Broms tying for 26th (156; 82-74).

The 2026 MIAA Championships are April 20-22 in Warrensburg, Mo.
