With the start of the 2018 season, Taylor Anderson is in his second year with Nebraska-Kearney baseball.
He joined the Lopers early in the 2017 calendar year and now serves as Assistant Head Coach, assisting Damon Day in all aspects of the program. The Kansas State graduate was promoted to full-time status in the summer of 2017.
In 2018, UNK's last year as a program, the Lopers went 28-24 (21-15) to place fifth in the MIAA. Picked 12th in the preseason poll, a new-look roster set new Loper team records for extra base hits, doubles, home runs and strikeouts thrown. Anderson adn the Loper coaching staff saw eight players named all-conference including Player of the Year Alex Achtermann.
A Lincoln Southwest High graduate, Anderson comes from a coaching family as his father, Mike, served as head baseball coach at Nebraska-Lincoln and most recently was an assistant at Oklahoma. His older sister, Kaleigh (Zoucha), served as an assistant volleyball coach at UNK and is now the head coach at Valdosta (Ga.) State.
Anderson played for one of the most respected high school coaches in the state of Nebraska in Southwest's Doug Kaltenberger. He mentored Anderson into a 2011 Class A All-State shortstop and All-Nebraska team member. Anderson led the state of Nebraska in home runs that spring, helping the Silver Hawks reach the state tournament where they won three games to finish third.
Anderson also was a member of UBA (Ultimate Baseball Academy) in Omaha. Legendary Nebraska Coach, Bill Olsen, was a great influence on his playing and coaching career.
After graduating, Anderson joined the Colorado Cherry Creek Connie Mack Team. There he had an opportunity to work with the winningest coach in Colorado history, Marc Johnson.
Anderson played collegiately at Division I Northern Colorado (2012), Cuesta College, Calif. (2013) and Kansas State (2014-15). He also had two stops in the California Collegiate Summer League with the San Luis Obispo Blues.
In his time in Manhattan with the Wildcats, Anderson was a utility player, starting games in both the infield and outfield.
