Augustine Ume-Ezeoke

Augustine Ume-Ezeoke returned to the Nebraska-Kearney football program in January 2020 after spending one year at FCS-member Stephen F. Austin (Texas) State. He'll lead the Loper outside wide receivers.

The Texan first was a Loper coach during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In 2019 he served as an offensive analyst and coached slot receivers for the Lumberjacks which included Xavier Gipson (52 receptions, 934 yards and seven touchdowns). He ranked among the Southland Conference's top receivers, was on the Jerry Rice Award (top freshman in FCS) watch list and was tabbed as a first-team freshman All-American.

SFA averaged 24 points and 369 yards per game, ending the fall with 16 passing and 14 rushing scores.

For the 2017 season Ume-Ezeoke worked in the secondary along with Jake Willrich, coaching the Loper corners. That group featured All-MIAA corner Malik Webb and All-MIAA safeties George Brown and Dallas Vaughn. Webb was among the league leaders in interceptions and INT-return yards with Vaughn ranking among UNK's tackle leaders. Finally, Brown wrapped up a five-year career by being named All-MIAA for a third time.

A year later Ume-Ezeoke moved to the offensive side of the ball where he led a young group of receivers. The unit was led by former basketball standout Trey Lansman who went on to earn all-conference honors and was scouted by several NFL teams.

Prior to coming to Kearney Ume-Ezeoke was playing professionally in Europe. Between 2014-2016, he was a member of the Kristianstad Predators (Sweden), Munich Cowboys (German) and Algarve Sharks (Portugal). He was a linebacker and running back and also coached those positions for Under-19 players.

A 2014 graduate of Ouachita Baptist of Arkadelphia, Ark., Ume-Ezeoke was at linebacker for the Tigers and led the team in tackles twice. Subsequently he was twice named second-team All-Great American Conference (GAC). Ume-Ezeoke was named honorable mention All-GAC as a sophomore and freshman.

Selected to play in the NCAA Division II Vs. NAIA All-Star game after his senior season, his play helped OBU have four straight winning seasons, win two league titles and qualify for the 2013 Heat of Texas Bowl.

A three-year team co-captain, Ume-Ezeoke worked OBU's youth and high school football camps in the summers. He also was part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Team Upward Bound.

At Lakeview Centennial High in Garland, Texas, Ume-Ezeoke was named to the Class 5A all-state team as well as being a district and team (defensive) MVP.
