Colten Gaines joined the Nebraska Kearney football program in the summer of 2025 and serves as one of two graduate assistant coaches. For a second straight season he'll lead the Loper tight ends.Â
The Loper tight ends were led by h.m. All-MIAA C.J. Horton in 2025. The group combined for 10 catches and blocked for a running game that reached the end zone 20 times and averaged 157 yards per game.Â
The Tennessee native came to UNK after working at FCS-member Tennessee-Chattanooga. Working as video coordinator for just over two years, Gaines handled all aspects of video operations for the team including practices and games. He also assisted with recruiting (unofficial and official visits). Prior to UTC, Gaines worked with quarterbacks and wide receivers at Chattanooga Christian H.S.Â
At Knoxville Catholic High School, Gaines was a quarterback for the Fighting Irish and led the team to the 2022 state Division II-AA semifinals.Â
