Kevin Coffie is in his first year as a Nebraska-Kearney graduate assistant coach.

He officially joined the Lopers in August 2018 and will assist Jake Willrich in leading the UNK defensive secondary.

The Maryland native comes to UNK via Division II West Virginia State where he was a three-time second-team All-Mountain East Conference selection. Over a four-year career with the Yellow Jackets Coffie amassed 124 tackles (79 solo), brought back four interceptions for 38 yards and broke up an additional 38 passes.

His played helped WVSU go 6-5 in 2017 when they allowed just 164 passing yards per game with 42 PBU’s. It marked the Jackets first winning season in nine years and only the third since 1992. Coffie also spent a redshirt year at FCS power James Madison (Va.) in 2015.

At Springbook High, Coffie was a wide receiver and cornerback for the Blue Devils. Also a member of the Honor Roll, he comes from an athletic family as his both is father, Richard (Virginia Tech), and older brother, Chris (Stevenson U., Md.), were defensive ends in college.
