Wes Bernt completed his sixth season as the head men's golf coach at Nebraska-Kearney with the completion of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Stanton native and former Loper golfer assisted former UNK Director of Golf, Chad Lydiatt, for three seasons before taking over the reigns of the men's program full-time in 2012-13.

With the elimination of the men's program after the 208 academic year, Bernt now serves as an assistant women's coach.

UNK reached the NCAA Super Regional, the first phase of the NCAA Division II Championships, in 2013 and 2014. The Lopers just missed qualifying each of the next four seasons.

Joining the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assoc.) in the fall of 2013, UNK has had two top five finishes in the conference race. Individually, four Lopers have earned All-MIAA honors, including Michael Colgate in 2014 and Jay Cottam in 2018.

Colgate earned All-American and All-Region honors as a true sophomore, averaging 74.5 over the season and becoming the first Loper to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He qualified thanks to winning the Super Regional tournament.

Colgate, a U.S. Amateur and Junior Amateur qualifier, later transferred to Nebraska-Lincoln but Bernt remained his swing coach. In the spring of 2017, Colgate qualified for NCAA Division I Regionals.

Over the last six falls and springs, UNK has set numerous team and individual records. That includes team 18-hole score (274), lowest team 36-hole score (583) and lowest team 54-hole scores (855).
