Jason Miller

Jason Miller joined the Nebraska-Kearney softball program in the fall of 2021 and serves as the Lopers assistant coach. 

A native of North Platte, he also works in the UNK Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences as a Lecturer. Previously, he was the Physical Activity and Wellness Lab Coordinator at UNK and also worked for the City of Kearney Park and Recreation as the Coordinator of Athletics. 

UNK had a breakthrough 2022 season, reaching the MIAA Tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2013. The Lopers went 2-2 in the event, upsetting fifth-ranked Central Oklahoma on its home field. A few weeks before, Kearney beat UCO at Patriot Park. 

Three were named to the All-MIAA squad with pitcher Madison Rosenthal named to the MIAA All-Tourney team. She tossed a no-hitter in an elimination game vs. Empoira State. Finally, out fielder Carlee Liesch was named All-MIAA for a third time and All-Central Region for the second time. 

A former Loper pitcher, Miller has an extensive baseball coaching background. He currently is a coach, instructor and the Director of Fall Operations for the Central Nebraska Baseball Academy, located in Kearney, and is the head coach for the Jersey's Senior American Legion team in the summer. He served as UNK baseball's assistant head coach, pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and strength & conditioning coach for nearly five years and held similar duties at Independence (Kansas) Community College between 2005-08. Jason Miller & Katie Ackermann

He holds a Sports Administration degree from UNK and a Master's in Health, P.E. and Recreation from Emporia State. Miller is a Certified High Intensity Interval Training instructor as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. 

Miller lives in Kearney with his wife, Ellie, who is a Didactic Education Coordinator for the Radiography program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). They have three children; Ogden (7), Monroe (3) and Rutger (2 months) and a 10-year old Golden Retriever, Betty.
