Grad Asst Maddie Squiers

Maddie Squiers

One of the top setters in Nebraska-Kearney history, Maddie Squiers will be in her second year as a graduate assistant coach in the fall of 2023.

Squiers was a two-time All-American setter for the Lopers, earning second-team honors in both 2019 and 2021. The NCAA Division II season, due to the pandemic, was canceled in 2020. The former Kearney Catholic standout previously was a two-time NAIA All-American at Bellevue (Neb.) University. She also was the 2016 NAIA, North Central Region and North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Freshman of the Year.

For the Lopers, Squiers was part of teams that went a combined 90-11. UNK was the 2019 National Runners Up, won the 2019 MIAA Regular season and tournament titles and won the unofficial 2020 MIAA Spring Invite. At BU, she was part of teams that won 62 matches and reached the NAIA National Tourney twice.

In her collegiate career, Squires racked up 6,248 assists, 1,637 digs, 246 blocks and 180 aces. Her 11.30 assists per set average ranks fifth in UNK history and she hit a healthy .272 in her Loper career. Prior to her coaching duties, she played professionally overseas.

At KCHS, she was named all-state in both basketball and volleyball and was a state track qualifier in the long and triple jumps. Squiers helped the Stars win three straight Class C-1 state titles as well as the 2016 Class C-1 state basketball crown.
