Kearney, Neb. – The 8th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team got a combined 26 kills from outside hitters
Erica Burson and
Chelsie Carson to sweep Adams State (-15, -10, -9) Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.
UNK (18-7-1, 8-0 RMAC) has now won 11 straight matches while the Grizzlies fall to .500 on the season (8-8, 5-3 RMAC).
Last November, Adams upset the Lopers, 3-2, in the first round of the RMAC Tournament. There would be no repeat of that as UNK smashed home 52 kills and also dug up 51 balls tonight.
Carson (Elkhorn) had a match-high 14 kills and hit .385 while Burson (Gross Catholic) was at 12 kills and a .476 attack percentage. Over the last six matches, this pair has recorded double digit kill totals four times and combined for 139 kills.
Not to be out done, seniors
Nikki Scott(Broken Bow) and
Shannon Clausen (Beatrice) combined for 16 kills and four blocks. Defensively, junior libero
Katlyn Heiserman (Manchester, Ia.) had a match-high 18 digs. Finally, junior setter
Cola Svec handed out 44 assists, had six digs, two kills, two aces and a block.
Adams State was led by their star, senior middle Darcy Jennings, who had nine kills and three blocks.
Western State visits the Health & Sports Center tomorrow night.
