Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track & field team recorded one automatic effort, and had five provisional marks, at its Pre-Holiday Open Friday night in Cushing Coliseum.
The non-team scoring meet also included athletes from Doane, Bethany, Ashford and NW Missouri State. Results can be found

Leading the Lopers was York senior
Spencer Huff who won the long jump with a leap of 24-1.75. The effort automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Championships in March.
Huff missed most of last year with injury; he holds the school record in the long jump (24-4.25).
Recording NCAA provisional marks were Waco senior
Dane Tobey (shot put & weight throw), Colorado Springs senior
Rich Mourer (weight throw), Franklin senior
Sam Murphy (shot put), Sargent senior
Tracie Chanady (weight throw) and Pleasanaton freshman
Kristi Bauer (high jump).
Mourer (60-7.75) and Tobey (57-6.25) went 1-2 in the weight throw; both throws were career-best efforts. Mourer's was also the third best in Loper lore.
In the shot, both Tobey (56-10.75) and Murphy (45-1.75) had winning efforts, as did Chanady in the weight throw (career-best 54-6.76).
Finally, Bauer won the high jump in her collegiate debut (5-5.75).
Also on the women's side, Curtis junior
Heather Wills won both the long (17-11.75) and triple (36-1.25) jumps with freshmen
Shelby Hamilton and
Karley Piper each winning an event and also running on the first place 4 x 400 relay team (4:16.39).
Hamilton (Broken Bow) won the 400 meter dash (1:02.38) with Piper (Lincoln Southeast) taking the gold in the 800 (2:25.79).
The Loper men saw Gothenburg sophomore
Alex Paul win both the 200 (22.89) and 400 (50.27) meter dashes. Finally, Huff had the best prelim time at 60 meters (7.01) and was then second in the finals (7.07) to Doniphan junior
Cody Klein (6.97).
UNK will compete again in January.
