Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team got off to a strong start and went on to win eight of 10 matches to beat Central Oklahoma,
31-6, Thursday night in Edmond, Okla.
UNK improves to 3-4 while the Bronchos fall to 3-4. In the latest national rankings, both teams were ranked third in the nation. UCO did compete minus starters Scott Berens (141 lbs.) and nationally-ranked Dustin Finn (285 lbs.).
The Lopers set the tone early when redshirt freshman
Danny Luttrell (Arlington, Texas) majored 5th-ranked Casy Rowell, 13-4, at 125 lbs. Fourth-ranked
Joey Morrison (Lincoln East) then put UNK up 8-0 when he majored 5th-ranked Trison Graham, 10-2, at 133 lbs.
UNK got a couple of dramatic wins when 6th-ranked
T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.) had a takedown and near fall, in the last 15 seconds, to upset 3rd-ranked Colby Robinson, 4-3, at 149 lbs. At 197 lbs., Sutherland sophomore
Justin McKain scored a takedown with only four seconds left to beat Jarrett Edison, 3-1.
Finally, Missouri junior
Ben Hohensee capped the night with a fall at 1:36 at 285 lbs.
The Lopers, who beat 20th-ranked Mesa State Wednesday night, are scheduled to have four duals Saturday at the Lone Star Duals in Texas.
