Kearney, Neb. – The third ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team picked up three wins in the Lone Star Duals by beating Newman University of Kansas,
45-3, University of Texas-Arlington,
55-0, New Mexico Highlands
33-12. Their only loss of the duals came to tenth ranked in Division I University of Oklahoma
34-4.
Nebraska-Kearney improves to 6-5 on the season. UNK is now 4-10 in duals vs. D1 schools.
Newman University Dual:
Freshman
Danny Luttrell (Arlington, Texas) recorded his first pin over Blake Ward in 1:59 in the first period, to give the Lopers a 6-0 lead.
After Luttrell pin, the Lopers would get two more pins from
Joey Morrison (Lincoln) —currently ranked No. 4 in Division II at 133 lbs. got his fifth fall of the season and
Tyler Baker (Hoxie, Kansas) pinned his third opponent this season.
Texas-Arlington Dual:
UNK rolled past University of Texas-Arlington, 55-0, in the second dual of the day.
Senior
Aeron Hill (Arlington, Texas) picked up his first major decision of the season and his Loper career, by beating Ray Ramirez, 13-0.
Nebraska-Kearney scored most of their points from four pins and three forfeits. Seniors
Derek Ross (St. Francis, Kansas) and Marty Usman (Arlington, Texas), both had pins under one minute, 0:49 and 0:20 respectively.
University of Oklahoma Dual:
Senior Marty Usman (Arlington, Texas) – currently ranked No. 1 in Division II at 174 lbs. -- recorded the Lopers only points against the Sooners when he majored Ben Bridell, 11-0, getting his ninth major decision of the year.
Sophomore
Justin McKain (Sutherland) was edged by Keldrick Hall 3-2.
Danny Luttrell was decision by Justin Forrest.
Luttrell gave up an escape to Forrest to make to 1-0, then Forrest picked up a bonus point for having 1:42 of riding time.
New Mexico Highlands Dual:
In a non RMAC dual, UNK used four pins to beat Highlands in the final dual of the day for both schools.
Nebraska-Kearney got pins from
Tyler Baker, his second on of the day and fourth overall. Baker pinned Zach Smith in 25 seconds.
Aeron Hill notched another milestone of the season by his first pin. Hill pinned Zach Armijo in 1:36 of the first period.
Ross also got his second pin of the day and fifth pin of the season, by pinning Adam Pacheco in 2:15 of the opening period.
Justin McKain recorded his second pin of the day well, by pinning Joseph Zambrano in 1:19. McKain's first pin came against David Espinosa of UT-Arlington.
