Kearney, Neb. - The 9th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team won four duals Sunday at the Central Missouri Dual Jamboree in Warrensburg, Mo.
Leading the way in wins over Northern State (28-9), Truman State (35-6), Mary (27-9) and No. 15 Findlay of Ohio (23-16) was senior Marty Usman. The top-ranked wrestler at 174 lbs. in Division II went 3-0 on the day, pushing his career win total at UNK to an even 100.
On the original schedule, UNK (10-5) was to have had a dual with SW Minnesota State. Instead, the Lopers faced the TSU Bulldogs.
Usman (Arlington, Texas) is now 29-1 after majoring Phil Downs of Northern (15-3), Shane Primeau of Mary (16-4) and Dean Shultz of Truman (19-10). On the year, Usman has two falls, 12 majors and six tech falls.
The 12th Loper to reach triple digits in wins, Usman is 100-18 in his three-year UNK career.
Usman didn't wrestle against the Findlay Oilers but the Lopers still won six of the 10 weight classes. Sophomore
T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.) recorded a major decision at 149 lbs., as did redshirt freshman Danny Lutterell (Arlington, Texas) at 125 lbs.
In the 29-point win against Truman, junior
Tyler Baker (Hoxie, Kan.) had a 2:26 fall at 141 lbs., Luttrell won by tech fall and Sutherland sophomore
Justin McKain won by major decision at 197 lbs.
Baker (major decision), Hepburn (fall at 2:12) and junior heavyweight
Ben Hohensee (major decision) and the bonus point wins against the Mary Marauders while Hepburn recorded a fall in just 52 seconds in the easy win over Northern.
Finally, Imperial senior
Taylor May returned to the lineup after missing some time due to injury. The 6th-ranked wrestler in the nation at 165 lbs., May went 2-1 on the day.
UNK will battle top-ranked Nebraska-Omaha next Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.
