Kearney, Neb. - A trio of double winners, and four overtime matches, highlighted the annual Nebraska-Kearney Blue/Gold wrestling scrimmage Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.
A total of 22 matches took place on two mats with the
Gold beating the Blue, 50-22. Sophomore
Josh Smith (125 lbs./Houston, Texas) and true freshman
Matt Lenagh (184 lbs./Millard North) and
Nick Ridgeway (141 lbs./Columbus) each went 2-0 on the night.
Nationally-ranked
T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.) won his only match of the event, a 6-2 decision over junior
Raufeon Stots (Houston, Texas) at 149 lbs.
Sophomore
Nick Bauman (Merino, Colo.), at 184 lbs., was one of four Lopers to win in overtime. With just seconds remaining in the seventh period, Bauman recorded a takedown of junior
Caleb Kociemba (Hillsboro, Oreg.) to win 3-2.
Also needing extra time to win were junior
Bruce Zurek (157 lbs./Comstock), sophomore
Matt Duffy (174 lbs./Kenesaw) and true freshmen
Matt Oliver (157 lbs./Auburn)
