Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney track & field team had several student-athletes compete Thursday at the Kansas Relays and the Colorado State-Pueblo Invite.
In Lawrence, senior
Nick Theis (Grand Island) added his name to the NCAA provisional list with a throw of 179-6 in the hammer. That toss was good for a seventh place finish in a field of 21.
Also in this event, senior
Rich Mourer (Colorado Springs) was 10th (174-1). Steffan Nerdal of Memphis was the winner, coming in with an impressive throw of 229-3.
On the track, sophomore
Brooke Harris (Dickens) ran a 4:46.02 to place third in the women's 1,500 meter unseeded run. In a field of 32, Harris came in ahead of runners from Kansas, Missouri State, Pitt State and NW Missouri State, among others.
Laura Lee Baird of Kansas State (4:43.77) was the winner.
At 10,000 meters, Minatare sophomore
Amy Long was sixth (39:03.86) with Deshler sophomore
Lauren Stengel 14th (40:05.91). Finally, Lincoln freshman
Karley Piper was 20th at 800 meters (2:25.78).
In Pueblo, sophomore
Jena Isaacson (Holdrege) is currently 2nd in the heptathlon with 2,683 points. She was second in the 100 hurdles (15.54) and at 200 meters (26.19).
This Saturday, UNK will be at Doane while Isaacson will finish up the heptathlon on Friday.
