Wrestling Beats Chadron State by 31 Points to Start RMAC Dual Season

Islam Abitov
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team won six matches by decision to roll past Chadron State, 33-2, Thursday night in Chadron.

The 11th-ranked Lopers improve to 7-2 (1-0 RMAC) while the unranked Eagles fall to 2-6 (2-3 RMAC). Chadron won one match by decision but was docked a team misconduct point, thus its final score of two points.

Lincoln junior Jordan White started things off with a forfeit win at 125 lbs. and then true freshman Alec Chantapatheth (Grand Island) beat Dustin Stodola, 12-6, to make it a 9-0 UNK lead.

At 141 lbs., sixth-ranked Dalton Jensen (Missouri Valley, Ia.) improved to 16-1 with a 7-2 win over senior Jimmy Savala, who came in with a 13-4 mark.

UNK then put things out of reach as second-ranked T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.) won by a tech fall, 18-1, at 149 lbs., and sophomore Islam Abitov (Kearney H.S.) picked up a major decision, 11-2, at 157 lbs. over Wyoming transfer Mikah Kadera (16-10, 3-2 RMAC duals).

Finally, the Lopers closed out the dual as sophomore Christian Flavin (Sharpsburg, Ga.) and senior Ben Hohensee (Monett, Mo.) won their 197 and 285 lbs. matches by a single point, respectively.

This Sunday, UNK faces 16th-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside, Indianapolis and Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.
