Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team is tied with Minnesota State for eighth in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association's final national poll of the 2011 regular season.
UNK, which was ninth two weeks ago, received 99 points, as did the MSU Mavericks. As they have since the beginning of the 2009 season, Nebraska-Omaha is number one (160) with the Mavs also receiving all eight first place votes.
Rounding out the top 10 is Augustana (152), St. Cloud State (144), Newberry of South Carolina (136), Central Oklahoma (119), Pittsburgh-Johnstown (117) and Grand Canyon of Arizona (114).
Individually, junior
T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.) is ranked second at 149 lbs., junior
Joey Wilson (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) is sixth at 165 lbs., junior
Dalton Jensen (Missouri Valley, Ia.) is seventh at 141 lbs. and sophomore
Josh Smith (Houston, Texas) is eighth at 125 lbs.
UNK hosts 18th-ranked Fort Hays State Thursday night to close out the regular season. The RMAC Championships/West Regional are next weekend (Feb. 26-27) at San Francisco State.
