Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team had a plus 11 shot margin and used a second half goal to beat Colorado Christian,
1-0, Friday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.
The Lopers (3-4, 1-2 RMAC) earn its first league win of the season while the Cougars fall to 2-5 (1-2 RMAC).
Last year, UNK was poised to make the RMAC Tournament but suffered a double OT loss at Christian and then were tied by the Cougars, 0-0, in Kearney.
Today, UNK out shot Christian 6-1 over the first 45 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net. Freshman forward
Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) almost gave the Lopers a halftime lead but her shot banged off the post at the 36 minute mark.
Coming into today, UNK had out shot (39-36) and out scored (4-1) the opposition in the second half. That trend continued as, five minutes after the break, freshman
Tara Knowlton (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) passed the ball into the middle of the field.
About 15 yards from the Christian goal, the ball managed to touch sophomore
Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.), who then passed the ball to sister Sarah. She promptly banged the ball past Cougar keeper Caitlyn Moses for the game's only goal.
A defender, this marks
Sarah Talcott's first career goal as a Loper.
CCU recorded just two shots, one that was saved by junior keeper
Marissa Niday (Fremont) in the first half. The other came off a direct kick that sailed wide of the UNK goal. This is Niday's third career shut out and second one of the season.
Finally, UNK ended up with 13 shots (seven on goal) and all six corners in the contest.
UNK hosts Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
