Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The Colorado State-Pueblo women's soccer team scored a rebound goal in the second half to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
Pueblo (4-5, 1-3 RMAC) earns its first league win and avenges last year's 2-1 home loss to the Lopers (3-5, 1-3 RMAC).
Neither team had a great chance to score in the first half with UNK out shooting the ThunderWolves, 4-3.
Pueblo stepped up its attack after the break as midfielder Melissa Christensen got free twice. In both instances, she took a shot from the right wing, the first just going wide of the Loper goal and the second banging off the post and into the hands of keeper
Marissa Niday (Fremont).
UNK had allowed just one second half goal all year but now that total stands at two. At the 72 minute mark, freshman defender Samantha Lewis received a pass from Alexis DeLaCruz from about five yards out and took a shot that Niday saved.
However, the ball didn't remain in Niday's hands. Instead, Lewis got another crack at it and this time she scored.
Kearney had two decent chances to tie the team but sophomore
Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) sent a shot high of the Pueblo goal and then a header by senior
Melanie Patrick (Hastings) also sailed above the net.
For the game, each team took 10 shots with Kearney have three more corners, 6-3.
UNK hosts Colorado Mines next Friday and then travels to Metro State on Sunday.
