Baseball Wins Second Game at Mo. Western

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Senior lefty Mike Loseke and junior righty Adam Peters combined on an eight-hitter, and junior catcher Chandler Klute went 3 for 5, as the Nebraska-Kearney baseball team beat Missouri Western State, 6-2, in the second game of a double header Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Griffons (2-3) won the first contest, 7-2, behind a complete game three-hitter from senior Brandon Simmons. UNK was no-hit for the first six innings of this seven inning game.

In the night cap, UNK scored three in the first and added three more in the fourth to earn its first win of the 2012 season. Peters (Lincoln NE) picked up the victory as he allowed one earned run and six hits in five full innings with Loseke (Arvada, Colo.) allowing no earned runs and just two hits over the final four innings.

UNK racked up 10 hits with Klute (Kearney) having three hits from the three hole and senior 2b Mike Nowak (Omaha Roncalli) going 2 for 5 from the second spot.
A big Loper first featured an RBI single from Klute and run scoring doubles from junior 1b Eric Ringblom (Millard North) and junior RF Brian Wuest (Prosper, Texas). In the fourth, Nowak and junior SS Erik Montes (Colo. Springs, Colo.) collected the RBI's as UNK took advantage of walk and hit batter.

Simmons, a senior right hander, fanned eight and walked none in game one. Nowak, Klute and Wuest each singled in the seventh with Nowak reaching via hit-by-pitch in the fourth.

The Griffons had 11 hits off of two Loper pitchers but left eight on base. They broke open a 2-0 game by scoring twice in the fourth and three more times in the sixth.

From the cleanup spot, sophomore LF  David Chew went 3 for 4 with two RBI's.

Another double header will be played tomorrow starting at noon.
