Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Regis senior right hander Charlie Henderson struck out nine over seven innings to lead the Rangers to a
7-3 win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The first of a four-game RMAC series, the Rangers improve to 8-9 (3-6 RMAC) while the Lopers fall to 6-11 (5-4 RMAC).
There was a lot of fireworks early as the Rangers Alexander Haag hit a “Grand Slam” in the top of the first and UNK's
Chandler Klute (3 for 3) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
It was a pitcher's duel after that as junior
Cory Ridenour (Bellevue West) struck out six and walked just one in seven innings with Henderson (2-1) blanking the Lopers for six straight. Hunter Aronson then threw two scoreless innings in relief.
The Rangers finished the scoring by crossing home plate twice in the fifth, thanks to a bloop triple down the left field line, and having an RBI single in the top of the ninth.
Besides Klute, Loper lead off hitter
Alex Miller (Millard West) went 3 for 4. The Rangers first four hitters went a combined 10 for 20 with six runs and two RBI's, led by Steven Brault (4 for 4).
The two teams play a double header tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m.
