Box Score 4 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team hit .371 this weekend to tally 58 runs in a four-game sweep of Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colo.
With the wins, the Lopers (5-6, 4-0 RMAC) make the Cougars fall to 1-11 (0-4 RMAC) on the young season.
UNK needed 10 innings to win the series opener,
9-5, Saturday afternoon but rolled in the final three contests, winning
16-2,
23-9 and
10-3.
Junior DH
Tommy Barnes (Perry Hall, Md.) was the offense star as he reached safely in all 15 plate appearances, going 12 for 12 with two walks and an intentional walk. After not playing in the series opener, he scored nine times, had 13 RBI's and recorded five extra base hits (three doubles and two homers).
The McCook College transfer went 4 for 4 with six RBI's and two HR's in game two, 4 for 4 with four runs and five RBI's in Sunday's first game and was 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBI's in the series finale.
Next, junior 3b
Chase Saxton (Millard West), from the eight hole, went 3 for 5 with six RBI's in the 23-9 win. He had a three-run triple and two RBI doubles in a game that saw UNK have 19 hits and the Cougars commit five errors, leading to 10 unearned runs.
Finally, junior 1b
Eric Ringblom (Millard North), coming into the weekend with a team-high .417 average, remained hot as he had three multiple hit efforts to hit .545 for the series (6 for 11) with junior catcher
Chandler Klute (Kearney H.S.) going 6 for 11 as well.
On the mound,
Cory Ridenour (Bellevue West) had a complete game (seven inning) four hitter on Saturday. Fanning seven and walking none, he allowed just one earned run in winning for the first time as a Loper.
Senior lefty
Mike Loseke (Parker, Colo.) threw three innings of scoreless relief in the series opener with junior
Alex Miller (Millard West) getting the win as UNK scored four times in the top of the tenth. The go-ahead hit was a one out, two-run dinger off the bat of junior RF
Brian Wuest (Prosper, Texas).
Six different Lopers threw in Sunday's first game with junior
Adam Peters (Lincoln SE) going five full innings to earn his second win over 2012 in the series finale.
UNK is at Nebraska Wednesday afternoon and then hosts New Mexico Highlands next weekend.
