Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior second baseman Justin Rosales went 4 for 4 and junior Nolan Snell struck out 11 in seven innings to lead Colorado Mesa to a 14-4 win over Nebraska-Kearney Thursday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colo.
Due to the Easter Holiday, all RMAC series have been moved up this weekend.
The Mavericks improve to 22-9 (16-5 RMAC) and make Chris Hanks the winningest baseball coach in CMU history (538). UNK, mean while, left 14 runners on base and falls to 10-19 (9-12 RMAC) on the season.
Mesa took advantage of three Loper errors, after two were out, in the first inning to score four unearned runs. Rosales capped the big inning with a two-run homer to left.
Junior left fielder
Alex Miller (Millard West) had given the Lopers a 1-0 lead after he singled and scored on an RBI ground out by redshirt freshman center fielder
Reid Carter (Castle Rock, Colo.) in the top of the inning.
Snell (6-1) limited the Lopers to eight hits and just two more runs over the next six innings. In addition to his 11 K's, he walked four and hit one batter.
Sophomore
Ethan Poulsen (Longmont, Colo.) shut out Mesa for three straight innings before the Mavs tallied four more in the fifth on two hits and two hit batters. The big blow was a two-run triple by sophomore right fielder Austin Kaiser (2 for 5).
Rosales and senior first baseman Dustin Fackrell (3 for 4) each hit homers in a four-run sixth and then Mesa finished the scoring in the eighth thanks to a double by junior center fielder Tamatoa Demello (3 for 5).
For the Lopers, junior catcher
Chandler Klute (Kearney H.S.) went 3 for 4 with Carter and junior right fielder
Brian Wuest (Prosper, Texas) combining to go 4 for 7 with two RBI's.
