Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Mckinzie Rieber scored two first half goals to help the Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team stun Abilene Christian (Texas), 2-0, Friday night in Joplin, Mo.
The game, played at Missouri Southern State, was delayed nearly 3 ½ hours due to poor weather.
This is the Lopers (3-1) biggest win in school history as the Wildcats, who recently accepted an invitation to join the Division I Southland Conference, went 20-2-1 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
ACU (1-2) began 2012 ranked 7th nationally but fell from the Top 25 this week after a season-opening loss to No. 15 Dallas Baptist.
UNK was on the attack early, recording the first game's first five shots. Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied her first collegiate goal when she broke away from the ACU defense and shot the ball past keeper Arielle Moncure at the 37th minute.
Just before halftime, Rieber scored from three yards out as she took a pass from sophomore
Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings). Rieber is now the fourth different Loper freshman to have scored a goal this year; the Loper other goals have come from three sophomores.
Abilene tried to come back after the break, out shooting the Lopers 8-1 and taking eight corners. However, senior keeper
Marissa Niday (Fremont) made six saves to record UNK's second straight shut out.
A complete box will be available Saturday. The Lopers host NAIA NW Oklahoma State Tuesday at noon.
