Kearney, Neb. – The 13th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team racked up 25 near fall points in rolling past Chadron State,
34-9, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.
UNK improves to 9-3 while the Eagles drop to 5-5.
Both teams picked up a forfeit victory, Chadron at 197 lbs. and Kearney at 141 lbs. The Lopers then won seven of the eight matchups.
To start the night, Central City freshman
Connor Bolling used a take town and nine near fall points to jump out to an 11-0 first period lead at 125 lbs.
However, in just his second match back after coming off the disabled list, Bolling had to hang on for a 13-10 victory as Jace Johnson used three takedowns and a three-point near fall to make things interesting.
Sixth-ranked
Daniel DeShazer (Wichita, Kans.) followed with a first period fall before defending national champion
Raufeon Stots (Houston, Texas) used four takedowns and 10 near fall points to win by tech fall, 19-2, at 149 lbs.
Redshirt freshman
Chase White (Lincoln H.S.) continued the dominance as he scored 10 points in the third period to tech fall Bruce Zurek, 22-6.
Next, senior
Chase Nelson (Wichita, Kans.) used an early takedown to grab a 2-0 least at 165 lbs. However, he needed two takedowns in the final period to slip past Dylan Fors, 8-3.
Finallly, junior newcomer
Patrick Martinez (Hemet, Calif.) won by decision at 174 lbs. and senior
Nick Bauman (Broomfield, Colo.) rode Mike Hill for the entire second period en route to a 4-1 win at heavyweight.
UNK hosts MIAA rivals Truman State and Lindendwood next Saturday evening.
