Wrestling Places Three in Top Four Four at Wyo

Kearney, Neb. – Several members of the 2nd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team took part in the 36th Annual Wyoming Cowboy Open Saturday in Laramie.

Leading the way was true sophomore Andrew Riedy (Grand Island), who placed runner up at 141 lbs. in the Amateur Division. Junior Matt Lenagh (Millard North) joined Riedy in the top four as he placed fourth at 184 lbs. in the Elite Division.

Also, true freshman Chance Bila (Chadron) was fourth at 174 lbs. in the Amateur bracket.

Riedy went 4-1 on the day, recording four straight victories before falling to Air Force's David Walker by major decision, 14-4, in the finals. To reach the first place match, he had a fall (5:17) and posted wins of 5-0, 8-0 and 6-1.

After a first round bye, Lenagh suffered a 9-8 setback to Arizona State's Leland Pfeifer. Another bye followed and then Lenagh pinned Adam Wolfe of Great Falls (Mont.) at 2:59 and before slipping past Air Force's Devin Hightower, 4-3.

In the third place match, Lenagh was beaten by another Sun Devil in Kevin Radford, 13-9.

Finally, Bila reeled off an impressive five straight wins on the backside to reach the third place match at 174 lbs. A long day ended with a 14-12 decision to Xavier Callejas from Boise State.

UNK heads to Kansas next weekend for the Bethany College Open.
