UNK Hosts Dual Tourney at the Fairgrounds

The Lopers second wrestling home
Kearney, Neb.  – The now fourth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team welcomes in 22 other schools this Saturday for the 2nd Annual UNK Midwest Duals.

The dual tournament will be held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. There will be duals on 12 mats with exhibitions taking place on mat 13.

Duals will be held at 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. To allow wrestlers and officials proper rest, the duals will not start early. Tickets are $ 9.00 for adults and $ 7.00 for youths (all day). UNK students can get in for free with their ID.

Besides the Lopers, the other Division II teams in attendance are 5th-ranked Central Oklahoma, 6th-ranked Fort Hays State, 11th-ranked Adams State, 19th-ranked San Francisco State, California Baptist, Chadron State, Minot State, Newman, Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State and Western State Colorado (formerly Western State).

Wisconsin-Whitewater, ranked third in NCAA Division III, is the only school in the tournament that will wrestle two teams with Simpson (Ia.) also coming in from the D3 ranks.

The NAIA schools in the field are Bethany (Kans.), Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, Hastings and York. Finally, the field is rounded out by the Wayne State club team and three junior colleges; Colby C.C., Northeastern Oklahoma A & M and Pratt C.C.

UNK (5-3) takes on the UCO Bronchos at 9:00 a.m. This serves as the MIAA duals between the two schools this year. Last winter, UCO posted a 22-16 win over the Lopers in Edmond.

Kearney then takes on the SW Minnesota Mustangs at 11:30 a.m. and the Northern State Wolves at two. At four, the UWW Warhawks will dual the Lopers; ironically, current UNK A.D. Paul Plinske previously was at Whitewater.

Results will be posted a www.lopers.com at the end of each session.
