Wrestling Easily Rolls Past Two North Dakota Schools

Kelsey Empting is back in the UNK lineup
Kearney, Neb. – The 2nd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team recorded a pair of easy wins Sunday afternoon at the Comfort Inn/Central Missouri Duals in Warrensburg.

UNK first beat Mary, 41-6, and then defeated Minot State, 31-13. Both of those schools are located in North Dakota and members of the NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference).

The Lopers, who bested Midland 36-6 Friday night in Fremont, were also supposed to dual NAIA Baker University (Kans.). However, they couldn't make the trip to Missouri due to weather conditions.

Returning to the mats after a long layoff, senior heavyweight Kelsey Empting (Ponca City, Okla.) had one of UNK's four bonus point victories in the win over the Mary Marauders.

Sophomore Ryan Bauer (133 lbs.) also had a fall in the less than two minutes with Connor Bolling recording an 18-2 tech fall at 125 lbs.

Against the MSU Beavers, Kansas junior Tyler Anderson had a fall at 5:38 to win at 149 lbs. with top-ranked Romero Cotton (Hutchinson, Kans.) posting a 16-4 major decision at 197 lbs.

Things get much tougher next weekend as the Lopers compete in the Division I bracket at the Virginia Duals. The pairings for that tournament will be announced Monday or Tuesday.

The Lopers not headed East will take part in the Hastings College Open on Saturday
