Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The 8th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team served up a season-high 10 aces and hit .353 to sweep NW Missouri State (-12, -10, -19) Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.
The Lopers (15-2, 7-2) bounce back from a rare loss while the Bearcats are now 8-9 (5-4).
UNK came in averaging just over an ace per set but its serve game rattled Northwest all night long. Sophomore outside hitter
LaRose Currie (Vail, Colo.) had a team-high four aces, including three in a row during the second set.
This is the most aces by a Kearney team since having 10 on October 16, 2012, vs. Missouri Western State.
Offensively, the Lopers hit over .400 in the first and third sets and didn't trail until the Bearcats scored the first point of the final set.
Ali Scheil Besides her serving, Currie had a team-high nine kills and seven digs with freshman outside
Caitlin Broadwell (Lawrence, Kans.) providing eight kills and a .304 attack percentage in her first extensive action as a Loper.
Another first year player, outside
Ali Scheil (Estes Park, Colo.), came off the bench and served strong all match, finishing with three aces.
In the back row, senior
Liz McGowan (G.I. Central Catholic) and junior MJ Massnaet (Manhattan, Kans.) each dug up nine balls. The totals allow Massanet to become the 27th Loper to reach 1,000 career digs while McGowan is now at an even 1,800, just the fourth UNK player to reach that mark.
Finally, freshman middle
Tara Ziegelbein (Lincoln Lutheran) had eight kills, two blocks and hit.500.
Northwest was led by Miranda Foster's nine kills and nine digs.
UNK hosts first place Missouri Western State tomorrow night.
