UNK Majors UCM, 35-8

Kearney, Neb. – The 2nd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team used five majors and two falls to roll past Central Missouri, 35-8, Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.

Prior to the dual, the 2013 national championship banner was unveiled in the West rafters of the H & S Center.

The Lopers got on the board when top-ranked Daniel DeShazer (Wichita, Kans.), already ahead 5-0, recorded a first period fall at 133 lbs.
Senior Brock Coutu (Griswold, Conn.) then shut out Eric Mateo, 8-0. Mateo came in with a solid 22-6 mark; this was Coutu's 13th win of the season.

Nationally-ranked Chase White (6th/ 157 lbs.) and Patrick Martinez (4th/174 lbs.) had the next two majors for UNK. White recorded five takedowns to score 14 points with Martinez having seven in a 16-6 win.

The four point wins kept coming as Seward senior Mark Fiala had 2:33 of riding time and five takedowns to win 13-5 at 184 lbs. with top-ranked Romero Cotton (Hutchinson, Kans.) building up three minutes of riding time to post a 16-5 victory at 197 lbs.  

Finally, wrestling in the H & S Center for the first time since the 2007 NCAA's, senior Kelsey Empting (Ponca City, Okla.) pinned Jake Clark at 1:26.
