Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team began a long road trip with
a sweep of Missouri Western State Friday in St. Joseph.
Â
The regionally-ranked Lopers (8-3, 1-1) even their MIAA mark while the Griffons remain winless (0-4, 0-1).
Â
UNK recently changed up its doubles lineup and the new pairings surrendered just four points to Western (8-1, 8-2 and 8-1). The No. 2 team of junior
Kristin Weems (Arlington, Texas) and freshman
Emily Fink (Elkhorn South H.S.) is now 8-0 after that six point victory.
Â
The Lopers didn't drop a set in singles with Fink (7-5, 6-2) having the toughest battle playing in the fourth position. Finally, Weems, ranked 19th in the Central Region, was the only UNK player to shut out her opponent (6-0, 6-2).
Â
The women are off until a Monday date at Quincy (Ill.). The Loper men have added a dual at Rockhurst tomorrow in Kansas City; they will also play QU two days later.
