Kearney, Neb. – Senior
Britni Norfolk won in three sets to help Nebraska-Kearney upset Central Oklahoma,
5-4, Saturday in Edmond.
The Lopers (14-6, 4-3) came in ranked eighth in the Central Region with the Bronchos (12-8, 6-3) two spots higher.
UNK dominated doubles, allowing just eight total points to grab a 3-0 lead in the match. However, UCO won between No. 1-4 singles, including a three-set decision by Kristin Richardson over Spanish sophomore
Paula Jimenez (2-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Arizona junior
Kari Emery won easily in the sixth spot (6-1, 6-0) and thus the dual came down to No. 5 singles.
Norfolk (Brashear, Mo.) won the first set 6-2 over Emilie Semo but dropped the second, 6-4. She bounced back to win the final two games of the third set to prevail 6-4. That gives her a team-best 16 singles wins this year.
UNK hosts Concordia Tuesday evening at Harmon Park.
